Attenuators reduce signal level by a known amount, protecting sensitive inputs, improving match and setting the operating point of a measurement.
Keysight and Maury Microwave cover this range. Fixed attenuators are specified by attenuation value, frequency range, power handling and connector type, and the power rating is the one most often exceeded, since a 2 W pad on a 10 W transmitter fails immediately. Step attenuators provide switchable values under manual or program control, useful for receiver sensitivity work. Check VSWR across your band, because a poorly matched attenuator introduces reflections that undo the benefit it was added to provide.
