Bench multimeters offer far greater resolution and stability than a handheld, trading portability for the digit count and low noise that laboratory and production measurement needs.

Keithley, Keysight, Chroma, Siglent and Hioki cover this range. Digit count is the headline specification, but what actually matters is basic DC accuracy over a stated period and temperature range, since a six-digit display on a drifting instrument is six digits of uncertainty. Four-wire resistance measurement is essential for low-value work, and built-in scanning or a card slot lets one meter serve many channels. Confirm the interface, whether USB, LAN or GPIB, if the meter will be automated.
