Universal Counters
Universal counters measure frequency, period, time interval, phase and duty cycle with a resolution far beyond what an oscilloscope cursor can give.

Resolution is quoted in digits per second of gate time, and the specification that ultimately limits it is the timebase, which is why an oven-controlled or GPS-disciplined reference is worth specifying for any serious frequency work. Time interval measurement between two channels is what makes a counter useful for propagation delay and jitter. Confirm the maximum input frequency and whether a prescaler channel is needed for microwave signals.
