Autoclaves and sterilizers use pressurised saturated steam to sterilise instruments, media and waste, the reference method for most laboratory work.

Chamber capacity is the obvious specification, but the constraints that decide installation are the utilities: whether the unit needs a plumbed water supply and a floor drain, or operates from a fillable reservoir, and whether the electrical supply can carry the heater load. Cycle options matter for what you sterilise, since liquids require a slow exhaust to prevent boiling over while wrapped instruments need a drying stage.
