Gas Detectors
Gas detectors in this range run from single-gas personal monitors clipped to a collar, through four and six-gas confined space instruments with integral sample pumps, to fixed transmitters wired into a plant safety system.
RKI Instruments and BW Technologies account for most of the portable range, with Bacharach covering combustion analysis and Dwyer Instruments and Vaisala covering fixed and ambient monitoring. The critical point when ordering is that the sensor configuration, not the housing, defines the instrument. Two units with identical part number prefixes and identical bodies can be built for hydrogen sulphide, carbon monoxide, methane, oxygen deficiency or a specific refrigerant, and fitting the wrong one produces an instrument that reads plausibly and protects nobody. Catalytic bead, electrochemical, infrared and photoionisation sensors also differ in cross-sensitivity and in whether they need oxygen present to work. Tell us the target gas, the alarm thresholds and whether the work is confined space entry, leak survey or fixed installation.
