Hipot Testers

Hipot testers apply a high AC or DC voltage between a product and its enclosure to prove that the insulation withstands it, a required step in electrical safety compliance testing.

Vitrek, Chroma and Instek cover this range. Test voltage and trip current are set by the standard you are working to rather than chosen freely, so identify the standard first. AC testing stresses insulation in both polarities and reveals capacitive faults, while DC testing charges the sample and suits high-capacitance products where AC leakage would exceed the trip threshold. Many instruments combine hipot with insulation resistance, ground bond and leakage current, which is worth having if you run a full safety sequence.
