Thermal Imaging
Thermal imaging cameras convert surface temperature into a visible image, making them the fastest way to survey electrical connections, motors, bearings, steam systems and building envelopes without contact or shutdown.
FLIR, Fluke, Fotric, Sonel and Seek Thermal cover this range. Detector resolution is the specification that matters most, because it sets how far away you can stand and still resolve a small target, and no amount of digital zoom compensates for too few pixels. Thermal sensitivity determines whether small temperature differences are visible at all. Remember that these instruments measure surface temperature and depend on knowing emissivity, so they are excellent for comparative survey work but are not a calibration reference.
