Elevated Body Temperature Screening
Elevated body temperature screening systems use thermal imaging to flag a raised skin temperature at a distance, as a first-pass screening step rather than a diagnosis.
FLIR and Wahl cover this range. The specification that decides whether such a system is credible is the presence of an external blackbody reference in the field of view, because a camera without one drifts and cannot hold the small temperature differences this application depends on. Measurement is of skin surface temperature, typically at the inner canthus, and it is affected by ambient conditions, exertion and airflow. These systems indicate who should be checked with a clinical thermometer, and are not a substitute for one.
