Microbalances read to 1 microgram or finer and are used for filter weighing, particulate analysis, trace gravimetry and reference standard work.

These instruments measure at a level where the sample itself becomes the problem: adsorbed moisture, static charge and even the buoyancy of displaced air affect the number. Successful use depends on a vibration-isolated bench, a stable and controlled room, an ioniser, and handling everything with tongs. Capacity is small by design, so confirm the tare weight of your sample vessel fits within it. Expect to allow substantial settling time per reading rather than working at balance speed.
