Solar meters and photovoltaic testers verify that an installed array performs as designed, combining irradiance measurement with electrical testing of strings and inverters.

A complete commissioning test needs more than a multimeter: open circuit voltage and short circuit current alone do not prove performance, so instruments here add I-V curve tracing, insulation resistance at array voltage and irradiance with module temperature so results can be corrected to standard test conditions. Confirm the maximum system voltage the tester supports, since modern strings exceed the rating of older instruments. Check whether the reporting output satisfies your handover documentation.
