Emerson appears here through its field communicator range, the handheld tools used to configure, calibrate and troubleshoot smart field instruments over their digital protocol.

The deciding specification is protocol support, since a HART-only unit cannot commission a FOUNDATION Fieldbus or PROFIBUS device. Confirm the hazardous area certification you need, because most of this work happens in classified areas and an uncertified handheld cannot be taken there. Check also that the device description library covers the instrument makes on your site, as an unsupported device can only be configured generically.
